Fraud Alert: County of Tulare residents face fraudulent invoices impersonating the Tulare County Planning Commission
TULARE COUNTY, CA — The Tulare County Resource Management Agency (RMA) is alerting residents and businesses of recent fraudulent attempts by scammers posing as the Tulare County Planning Commission, an appointed body whose matters are handled by the RMA. A resident has reported receiving a fake invoice, claiming to be from the Planning Commission, in an amount upwards of $10,000.
Scam Invoices
The fake invoice was fraudulently sent on behalf of the Tulare County Planning Commission, with a breakdown of charges with line items, such as “Detailed Subdivision Layout” and “Contract Staff & Professional Consultant Fees.” These invoices are not legitimate and are not connected in any way to the County of Tulare, the Tulare County Resource Management Agency, or the Tulare County Planning Commission. The County does not send unsolicited invoices of this nature.
How to Recognize Legitimate Charges from Tulare County RMA
When the Tulare County Resource Management Agency issues invoices, they are typically sent through the United States Postal Service (USPS), unless the receiver has requested to receive the invoice by email. Constituents and businesses can confirm the legitimacy of invoices claiming to be from the Resource Management Agency or the Tulare County Planning Commission by contacting us directly at rma@tularecounty.ca.gov or by calling (559) 624-7000 before taking any action. If you are a victim of this scam, please contact the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigations at (559) 636-5410.
